Fang-tastic Halloween Cards

I love, love, love this new stamp set that's in the Holiday Mini catalog! It's called Fang-tastic and I think it's fantastic!! The adorable little witch reminds me of my grandaughter, Lily Rose and I love being able to include our little black kitty Seamus in a Halloween card!

I cut out and popped up various parts of the images to add interest to the card. I was surprised how quickly it went, snipping and popping up!! I used Karen Barber's "make your own background paper" technique on the first card by stamping the pumpkin image over and over. I also altered the sentiment from "have a fang-tastic halloween" to "have a purr-tastic halloween".   I thought it sounded cute!

BOO! You Can't See Me Because I Can't See You!

IMG_2525
Happy Halloween everyone!! I had wanted to get this posted earlier, but of course, the day got away from me. And so it's now or never!!

This is a picture that I snapped of our new kitty, Seamus. He was zipping around the yard, diving into the leaves, popping out and then taking off again! What a nut! Maybe he got into some of the catnip that is growing in the gardens! I have many more shots of him to share with you over the next few days.

I love the expression on his face in this one, don't you?! To me it looks like he is smiling!

All kitties have a story and I'll share Seamus' with you. He came to us at the end of this past August ~ a teenager, skinny and scrawny and, of course starving. Aren't all teenagers starving? He just showed up in our back yard one Sunday morning, hanging out underneath the bird feeder. I suppose he was hoping some unsuspecting bird would venture too close and he would get a tender morsel for breakfast. When I saw him there I went outside to get a better look and as soon as he heard the door open he took off. Apparently he wasn't used to humans. I caught glimpses of him off and on for 3 days but never actually saw him at the food and water bowls that I put out for him.  I figured that since he would not let me get near him he must be wild and not be someone's lost pet, which was good.

I was so excited that I might finally have another black cat after so many years of not having one. I have always thought that black cats have the neatest purrsonalities, at least all of the ones that I have met do. Many years ago we had a kitty named Midnight ~ I didn't name her, she came with that name when someone abandoned her behind our pet store.  We found her on a leash tied to a post with a note that said "My landlord won't let me keep Midnight. Please find a good home for her". Well, we did find a good home for her, ours!! She was the best kitty ever. She used to climb under the covers with me and put her head on my pillow, right next to me and sleep there all night! Whenever I sat down she would suddenly appear out of nowhere and jump up in my lap for a snooze and to keep me company. She lived to the ripe old age of 18 and I had always hoped to have the pleasure of sharing my life with another blackie!

Over the years we have taken in many cats, but disappointingly, none of them were ever black. We were never ones to turn away a hungry, homeless little creature and at the point that Seamus showed up our kitty count stood at ....5!! Yikes, we didn't need another one, but what are you going to do ~ thank goodness my husband, Gary is as much an animal lover as I am!

By the third day I wasn't getting any closer to him so I put a bowl of food down and then sat on the ground a few feet from it. I was not facing the bowl although I could see it out of the corner of my eye. Pretty soon Seamus came to eat, but wouldn't let me scoot any closer to him. Over the next few days I tried again many times to get close to him. Finally, he let me touch him and then pet him. Then he started rolling over to have his belly rubbed and it was all over for both of us!! What a sweetheart he has turned out to be!! He sleeps with us at night (although not under the covers) and loves to keep us company during the day.  He is affectionate, silly and smart ~ all rolled into one wild and crazy black kitty! And I am so thankful that he showed up at our birdfeeder one summer  morning!

Halloween Treat Holders

IMG_2532halloweentubes
I made these cute Halloween candy treat holders for my scrapbooking girlfriends that I get together with every Wednesday.  Believe it our not, they are made with....wait for it....toilet paper rolls!! Yes, the lowly toilet paper roll! One of my friends was an elementary school teacher in her former life and she said that they were a staple in her crafting arsenal of supplies. Another of the girls said that the rolls may soon be a thing of the past. The tp companies have come up with a way to do away with them and that it will save millions of trees! What will the crafters and teachers of the world do once that happens??  Oh my, my.

I CASEd this project from Linda Joyce Steele who credited Elizabeth Price for her inspiration. And so it goes!

I used lots of supplies from the Stampin' Up! Holiday mini catalog that you can see on the right side of my blog. You can order through that link at any time ~ 24/7!  Isn't that convenient?

To make these I ran some of the new color cardstock Cajun Craze through the Big Shot using the Textured Impressions "Spider Web" Embossing folder. You get a nice deep impression with these embossing folders. You can brush them lightly with ink to make the lines really "pop",  but there really isn't any need to.  I used the "Fang-tastic" stamp set and the Basic Black Waffle Paper which are both also in the Holiday mini. I chose the Wicked Fun DSP (designer series paper) to snazz them up a bit and to add a touch of "spooky-ness".  The Waffle Paper is a new item and comes in rolls that are 8 inches wide by 5 yards long!!  That's a lot of waffle paper!! It is really neat to work with because it is crinkly wrinkly and easy to pleat and gather.  It comes in packages of 2 rolls ~ Early Espresso and Black or Metallic Silver and Metallic Gold.  I used Stampin' Up! markers in Rich Razzleberry and Always Artichoke to color the little trick or treaters. The base is one of our new In-Colors, Concord Crush cardstock that was punched out using the new 2-3/8" Scallop Circle Extra-large punch. It is a perfect fit with the tp roll!

I was able to fit a good amount of candy in each of the Treat Holders, at least I thought so! The more candy that I could fit into these, the less my husband and I had around the house to tempt us and that is a good thing!!

I think that the girls all liked these Halloween Treat Holders and I found that they were very easy to make.  What is nice is that they can be made for any holiday or occasion, just change up the colors and the DSP and you've got a whole new look ...and for just pennies!!  So I guess we all need to start saving those tp rolls before they become a thing of the past!!  I can just see myself telling my great grandchildren ~ "Well in my day OUR tp came on little cardboard rolls - I used to walk 3 miles, uphill all the way just to get tp so I could make cute little treat holders for all of my friends!" heehee!!

I'm going to give this thing called "Blogging" one more try!

Okay. I haven't made an appearance here since May 2nd.  I apoplogize.  It's not that I haven't wanted to.  It's not that I haven't had things to post about. I've been looking around the blogosphere the entire time.  Really, I have.  I was trying to get ideas for blog design and banners and that sort of thing.  I just wasn't happy with what I had been using.  I felt uninspired......well plus the fact that I had shipped most of my art supplies to our new home in Peoria Illinois.  Since my vision for this blog is one of teaching and sharing the art of rubber stamping and scrapbooking it made things just a bit difficult when it came to creating samples to share with you.

And I got out of the habit of posting and before I knew it over 6 months had gone by.  Poof!

So I am here now, ready to give it another go!

I'm excited to see where this journey will take me.......
